Job Description of Thrift Store Clerk:

Greets and assists store customers in donating, selecting and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customer questions; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the store. Assist in supervising client program participants.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Must be honest and of ethical character.  Accountable for company money
• Assist with cash register duties and customer service
• Assist with phone calls to schedule pick up of donations, or sale of rags
• Operate cash register majority of the day, perform mathematical computations and count change
• Help keep the store in a clean and orderly manner throughout the day
• Receive, sort, and price donations. Hanging or placing merchandise on shelves
• Supervise clients/trainees with their tasks
• Must have excellent attendance and be dependable, be able to read, write, and be alert
• May be asked to supervise, instruct and work along beside a program participant and need to know personal confidential information.  HIPAA and privacy laws apply
• All other duties as assigned

Critical Qualifications:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
• One-year prior customer service or retail experience preferred
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing and some climbing.  Moderate to heavy physical effort required associated with sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently assist customers with loading and unloading merchandise.  Must be physically and mentally alert.
